Bobby Blue - Written By Melinda Moulton and Illustrated by Ron De Long - Ages 2 to 102

I wrote Bobby Blue back in 1988 when my children were young.

While raising Eli and Mariah, my husband and I needed them to understand the impact of their actions and their words. We often played Paul Butterfield's song

It All Comes Back which is about how what you do and what you say comes back in the same way.

Whenever one of our children behaved in a mean or unkind way, we would remind them that they were creating an energy which would return to them. Indeed, both my children were connected deeply with energy and felt the effects of "it all comes back" when they said or did something that required a "return" on their unkind investment-and it was usually instant. And, when they were kind and loving, that energy was also returned to them. We know this as "karma". Today my children are parents and both of them continue with this lesson with their own children. During COVID I came across my Bobby Blue poem and began working on it again. I reached out to my dear friend and nationally celebrated artist, Ron De Long. We were in high school together. Ron agreed to illustrate Bobby Blue and his illustrations perfectly capture the intent and message of this important story.
